Welcome to the 2024 Teen Summer Takeover! Register online, pick up a challenge passport, and complete different activities (don't worry - its not just reading!) to earn currency which can be traded for prizes of all shapes and sizes.
Teen Summer Takeover is a choose-your-own-adventure program hosted by the Library each summer. This year, our theme is Herding Cats!
During July and August, teens can register for the program, then pick up a challenge passport. The passport has dozens of different activities than teens can complete at their own pace (with the exception of in-person craft programs), and they can also complete as few or as many activities as they want - and still get prizes!
Once activities are completed, teens show proof by bringing the passport along with any photos required by activities to the Library to Lara. Each completed activity earns 1 Meowny (unless otherwise stated), the currency for this year's program.
Meowny can be exchanged for prizes, from cute stationary to books to gift cards and more!
To match the theme, teens can also herd (collect) cats during the program by completing specific challenges that match to one of the 8 felines' icons. If you complete six matched activities as well as a special activity for each little meowster, you have successfully herded them, and will receive a matching reward! Teens will also receive a Cat-alogue that has information about all of the cats, and a space to track the activities they have completed for each.
The Teen Summer Takeover will run from July 3 - August 16 2024.
Weekly in-person craft programs will be on Fridays from 3:30 - 4:30, either in the teen are or in the Library Auditorium. Programs are on:
- July 5
- July 12
- July 19
- July 26
- August 2
The week of August 9 will have a take-home craft kit, available for pick-up on Tuesday, August 6.
The wrap event will be on Friday, August 16 from 3:00 - 4:30 pm. We will be making bad cat art totes using sublimation printing, and testing your knowledge with cat-themed trivia! (Special thanks to Michelle & her Maker Space for helping out with the sublimation part of this program!)
Any teen between ages 13-18 is welcome to join the Teen Summer Takeover! We also invite youth turning 13 during the program (July and August) to participate as well.
No library card is required, and you don't have to live in Penticton either - you can participate from Summerland, Naramata, or other nearby communities!
All you have to do is register by clicking the link below:
