Teen Summer Takeover 2020

Grab your passport, choose your adventure, and win!

This year we've taken the Teen Summer Takeover into the digital sphere. You can still pick up a challenge passport from the library starting July 2, but you can also print your own, too. Instead of visiting the library to tell us what challenges you've completed, you can phone us, email us, or join our Discord server to share what you've done to earn prize tickets! Some challenges will still need to be completed within a certain week to earn your tickets. We've also emphasized safety in the passport challenges, including more activities that can be done at home or by yourself/with family outdoors. There will be no in-person programming, with the exception of a drop-in tie dye t-shirt afternoon (details to come!)

How it Works

  1. Fill out the registration form here and print off or pick up your passport
  2. Write your TST ID# on the front of your passport
  3. Complete challenges between July 7 to August 14
  4. Phone, email, dm (on Facebook or Instagram), or share on Discord what you've completed
  5. Each challenge is worth 1-8 tickets; these tickets count towards weekly prize draws
  6. Some challenges must be completed within certain weeks, and some are general and can be completed at any time (good for if you want a certain prize!)
  7. A limited number of take & make kits will be available each week for the "Create" themed activities on a first-come, first serve basis
  8. Not in Penticton for the summer? No problem! Just print or grab a passport before you go on your adventure and email us your completed challenges
  9. Have some friends looking for something to do too? Get 5 bonus prize draw tickets per friend that you can use in any of the 6 weeks!

Note: If you are printing off your own passport, email Lara for your invite to the teen Discord server (optional) at pplteens@summer.com

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  1. When are the weekly challenges due? By 5:30 PM each Monday before the next week starts. For example: Week 1's challenges are due by Monday, July 13 at 5:30 pm.
  2. How can I submit proof of my completed challenges? Take a photo of your passport and email it to us, DM us on Facebook (/PentictonPublicLibrary) or Instagram (@PentictonLibrary), phone Lara at 250-770-7781 ext. 4516, or join our PPL Teens Discord Server!
  3. How do I join the Discord Server? Each passport the library has available to pickup will have an indivitual invite link for 1 teen that is good for 1 month. If you are printing out your own passport at home, email Lara at pplteens@summer.com and she will send you back an invite link.
  4. What book formats are accepted for the Read challenges? Print books, ebooks, audiobooks, downloadable audiobooks, graphic novels/comics. Sorry, no magazines!
  5. How do I pick up print books from the Library? We currently offer the LibraryTakeout curbside pickup service. Read about how to use it here: https://pentictonlibrary.ca/library-takeout
  6. Help! I don't know what to read! Use any of the ways listed above to contact Lara and she will be thrilled to help you find some new reads!
  7. I lost my TST passport! What do I do? Email or phone Lara using the above information and we'll arrange for you to pick up another passport, or you can just print another out!

We're still here and we're excited to see what challenges you clear this year!
