What is Summer Reading Club?

Summer Reading Club is a fun program that encourages kids to read over the summer so they hold on to their learning from the school year.

The Penticton Public Library offers this free program each summer to kids aged 5-12. Kids pick up a reading record and set their own reading goals, collecting stickers as they do home reading through the summer. This is not a reading contest – it is not about reading as many books as they can or what somebody else tells them to read. Instead, they read whatever they like – just for fun. Library cards are not required, but we encourage children of all ages to get their own cards!

Kids can also attend drop-in** Summer Reading Club programs in the Library Auditorium each week – and summer visitors are welcome. This year, our theme is Motion  Commotion! We will feature storytelling, crafts, activities, guests, puppet shows, prize draws and a party to celebrate at summer’s end with cake, medals, prizes and more. It’s a lot of fun! We hope to see your children there…

Reading records for kids are now available at the Library's check out desk, or in the Children's Library.

**Please note: while registration is not required for these programs, a completed emergency contact/media release form is. Download the form here, or drop in at the library to fill one out before or during a program.
