Teen Summer Takeover

Teen Summer Takeover

Are you between 13-18 years old?

Are you looking for something fun to do this summer?

Do you have a To-Be-Read pile almost as tall as you are?

Have you always wanted to explore your town and haven't quite made it out there yet?

Do you want to win some awesome prizes donated by local businesses to support youth programs in Penticton?

Do you want to learn a skill that will help you survive in the zombie apocalypse?

If you answered YES to any or all of the above: we want you! The Penticton Public Library is launching a brand new program for teens this summer, the Teen Summer Takeover! For six weeks from July 3 to August 11, choose where you want to go, what you want to do, create new things, or read - and win!

How it works:

  • Pick up a Teen Summer Takeover (TST) Passport in person at the Information Desk starting in the middle of June
  • Complete challenges in the categories of Create, Do, Explore, & Read
  • Show your completed challenges to library staff (or email us about them if you're out of town) and get tickets
  • Tickets are entered into weekly prize draws and all are saved for the grand prize draw
  • Help a friend sign up for bonus tickets!
  • Weekly prize draw winners will be contacted by the phone number they give when they sign up for the TST
  • Weekly challenges must be submitted during/by the end of the same week they're held in.

Weekly Prizes

  • Gift cards to places like The Grooveyard, Sirius Science and Nature, The Book Shop and Veriberry
  • Stationary Mystery Bags
  • Brand new books and comic books

Grand Prize

  • 1 Samsung Galaxy Tab E Lite 7" (Generously donated by Andre's Electronic Experts!)

Frequently Asked Questions

I'm out of town for the summer, can I still join up?

Of course! You can pick up a TST booklet before you leave or we can email you a digital copy along with your TST ID Number. When you complete a challenge, just email us at ppltst2k18@gmail.com telling us what you did or a picture if the challenge asks for it. Staff will write your ID Number on tickets and you'll still be entered into the draws!

What kind of type of books can I read for the challenges?

We accept: print books, ebooks, audiobooks, downloadable audiobooks, and graphic novels as long as they match the genre for the challenge. Sorry, no magazines!

I missed the deadline to submit a challenge for last week. Can I enter it for this week?

Weekly challenges in the first half of the passport must be completed during their assigned week. We encourage you to plan ahead if you can, but in case you miss a deadline, there's lots of non-weekly challenges in the second half of the book to complete, too!

I lost my TST passport!

Accidents happen, don't worry. Just drop by the library, tell us your first and last name, and your previous TST ID Number if you remember it.

How do I get my tickets?

In person: Bring your passport with completed challenges to the Library's Information Desk. Staff will give tickets for all the completed challenges, write your TST ID Number on them, and enter them into the weekly draws.

By email: Email completed challenges and anything required for them to ppltst2k18@gmail.com.

(**Please note: staff will only be checking this email 2-3 times a week and we'll get back to you as quick as we can.)

When do I pick up prizes if I win one?

Prizes can be picked up at the Library's Information Desk any time after you are contacted if you've won. Teens have until Friday, September 14th at 5:30pm to pick up their prizes.

Do you have any other questions we didn't answer? You can always phone Lara at 250-770-7781 ext. 4516
